Eric Shulstad to play basketball for Comets next season

Former Pelican Rapids and MSCTC-Fergus Falls standout Eric Shulstad has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Mayville State University beginning in the fall of 2011.

Shulstad led the MSCTC-Fergus Falls men's basketball team to a 20-8 record this past season as the Spartans advanced to the MCAC State Tournament. The 6-6 sophomore guard averaged 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals per game while shooting at a 37 percent clip from the three-point line. His efforts earned him All-MCAC and All-MCAC Southern Division honors.

Eric
Shulstad was named Co-MVP of the men's basketball team and was also named the Male Student-Athlete of the Year at MSCTC-Fergus Falls.

“Eric is an incredibly well-rounded player and will immediately make our basketball team better,” Mayville State University men's basketball coach Justin Johnson said. “He has a great feel for the game and knows what winning is all about. There is no doubt in my mind that Eric will be a fan favorite here at Mayville State.”

Shulstad also experienced plenty of success throughout his prep career at Pelican Rapids High School. During the 2009 basketball season he was a key member of a state championship team that finished the season 33-0.

“I'm looking forward to the opportunity to continue my basketball career at Mayville State University,” Shulstad said. “I'm excited about the next two years and I hope to help the team compete at the national level.”

The Comets men's basketball team is filled with a rich winning tradition having been to three of the past seven NAIA II National Tournaments. During the 2006-2007 season Mayville State University became the only men's basketball team in the history of North Dakota to play for a National Championship.
