Comet Football Loses to Macalester College 41-14 on Senior Day

MAYVILLE, ND – The Comet football team played their final game at Jerome Berg Field in 2012 on Saturday, October 27, 2012 as they hosted Macalester College on Senior Day. The Comets recognized senior players James Holland, Travis Martin, Victor Redd, Brandon Zahn, Tim Nordby, James McKinney, Todd Olson, and Tanner Carpenter today in their final game in front of the home crowd in Mayville.

The Comets played the Scots tough in the first half as they traded touchdowns for the first 14 points before the Scots got a late touchdown to take a 21-14 halftime lead.

Jerril Jenkins got the Comets going on their first drive with a 37 yard touchdown run up the middle. The Comets ran for 137 yards as a team on the day.

Rashad Flanders got the Comets on the board the second time in the game with an electric 85 yard kick return touchdown.
In the second half the Scots really concentrated on pounding with a running back by committee. The Scots ran 57 times for 234 yards on the day and controlled the clock, keeping the Comet offense off the field. The Scots were able to get some timely touchdowns off good field position in the second half en route to a 41-14 victory over the hometown Comets.

Defensively the Comets had a couple great individual performances. Aaron Johnson on the defensive line collected 12 tackles and one fumble recovery while playing with a cast on his right hand. Dylan Midstokke led the team with 14 tackles in the game. Midstokke also had an interception called back on him after a false start penalty wasn't blown dead at the line.

Brogan Thoran had one sack on the game to go along with six tackles and one forced fumble in a good effort for the Comet defense.Aaron Davis and Travis Ahlgren got the second sack of the day on a failed fake punt attempt.

Mayville State University (4-5) will play on the road next weekend in Madison, SD against Dakota State University. Game is set to start at 3:00 p.m.
