CLINTON, IA –
Charlton Wilson scored 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting for the Comets but it wasn't enough as #23 Ashford University defeated MSU 78-65. Ashford leaned on the offense of Anthony Woods whose game-high 30 points was too much for the Comets in this game.
Woods scored 30 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-11 from beyond the arch. He was perfect at the foul line going 7-for-7 and led the team in rebounds with five.
David Hicks stepped into a scoring role in this game for MSU with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Hicks also had five assists, three rebounds, and three steals.
The rebounding battle was pretty even with Ashford edging the Comets by one rebound, 30-29.
Michael Lindsay led MSU with six rebounds. He also scored nine points of the bench for the Comets, going 5-for-6 at the free throw line in the process.
Ashford also had a slight advantage in turnovers with 15 compared to the Comets 17.
The biggest difference in the game was outside shooting. The Comets struggled to shoot the ball in this game from the outside hitting just 1-of-12 from the three point line, where Ashford knocked down 11-of-26 from downtown.
The Comets dropped to 4-4 on the season in this game.
