Lindsey Johnson is entering her 15th season as head volleyball coach at Mayville State University.

The Comets finished the 2021 season with a 15-15 overall record and 5-9 in conference play finishing in fifth place heading into the conference tournament. The Comets would match up with the Vikings in the opening round of the NSAA Volleyball Tournament and would drop that game 1-3. Elora Passa and Natalie Hadrava were named NSAA All-Conference in 2021 with Passa also being named to NAIA Honorable Mention and AVCA All-North Central Region. The Comets were also finished the academic year with 16 players named to NSAA Academic Scholar Athletes

In a weird 2020-21 season the Comets managed to pick up their thrid consecutive 20-win season going 23-11 and advancing to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history. MSU had four players that were named to NSAA All-Conference including NSAA Co-Player of the Year Victoria Johnson and NSAA Defender of the Year Mason Hart. Hart and Johnson were also named to NAIA All-American Team during the 2020-21 season. 

For the second straight season the Comets reached the 20 win mark with a 21-12 season and a 9-5 NSAA record that put them in fourth place heading into the conference tournament. Mayville opened up with Presentation College and defeated them in the first round 3-1. In the semi-finals meet up with ranked Viterbo and fell 3-0. For the second straight season, Jayden Warner was named North Star Defender-of-the-Year and First-Team All-Conference. Victoria Johnson was also named to First-Team All-Conference, while Hannah Bliss and Elora Passa were named to Second-Team All-Conference. Warner and Johnson were named to NAIA and AVCA All-American, they were selected 3rd team and Honorable Mention respectively. 

The 2018 season, the Comets went 21-14 and 7-7 in the North Star. MSU finished tied for 4th place and hosted the first round of the NSAA Tournament against VCSU and dropped the match 3-0. Two players were named to Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes (Cassidy Miller and Hannah Bliss). Jayden Warner was named to AVCA All-Region Team and AVCA All-American Honorable Mention in 2018. Warner also was selected as North Star Defender-of-the-Year and received First-Team All-Conference honors. Jana Mehus and Victoria Johnson were named to Second-Team All-Conference during the 2018 season. 

In 2014, the Comets won 21 games and finished in third place during the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference regular season with a 6-4 record. The third place finish set the Comets up for a first round playoff match against Presentation College which they won comfortably in three sets. The Comets traveled to #2 seed Dakota State University for their second round playoff match and upset the higher seeded Trojans in four sets. The win put the Comets in the NSAA Tournament Championship match for the second year in a row. The Comets lost in the NSAA tournament championship to regular season champion University of Jamestown. 

The 2014 season saw many Comet players earn conference and national honors. Josette Glatt was named the NSAA Most Valuable Athlete, Offensive Player-of-the-Year, and First Team All-Conference. Glatt also received the NSAA Champions of Character award. Katie Wangberg was selected as NSAA Setter-of-the-Year and named NSAA First Team All-Conference. Remington Werner earned Second Team All-Conference honors for the Comets. In addition to their NSAA conference accolades, Josette Glatt and Katie Wangberg earned First Team All-Region honors which was voted on by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). The postseason awards continued to pile up for Josette Glatt as she was chosen by the NAIA Volleyball All-America Selection Committee as a Third Team All-American. 

A 2002 graduate of Mayville State with a degree in elementary education, Johnson was a four-year starter for the Mayville State volleyball team. In 2001, Johnson served as a senior assistant coach at Mayville State and went on to coach two seasons at May-Port C.G. High School in Mayville, ND. Johnson helped lead that team to a North Dakota Class B State Championship in 2001 and her team placed second in state during the 2002 season.

Prior to coming to Mayville State, Johnson spent three season at Buena Vista University. During her first season with the program, she was named the Iowa Conference Co-Coach of the Year. Johnson guided Buena Vista to a 17-15 record and a third-place finish in the Iowa Conference. It was the best record for the Beavers since 1986. It was also the first time the squad had finished as high as third in the conference standings since 1986. The team also tied for third in her second year.

Prior to her years at Buena Vista, Johnson served as an interim assistant and graduate assistant coach at St. Cloud State University for two seasons. Johnson, coaching as an assistant under Patricia Mickow, helped lead St. Cloud State to the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2004 for the first time since 1995. The Huskies finished the year with a 19-13 record, their highest win total in nearly a decade. 

Johnson graduated from Underwood High School in Underwood, Minnesota. She earned her master's degree in sports management at St. Cloud State University.

Lindsey resides in Mayville with her husband David Johnson. They have two son's, Bricker and Bentley.
