With the regular season winding down, the Mayville State University volleyball team was looking to climb up in the conference standings when they hosted fourth-place Minot State University at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse tonight. But Minot State came away with a 3-2 victory over the Comets in a tightly fought match.
The Comets started out strong, taking the first set 25-21. But the Beavers answered right back and took set two 25-22. The teams would once against trade sets with Mayville State taking the third set 25-15 and Minot State taking set four 25-15. With the teams tied 2-2, the Comets and Beavers went to a match deciding set five. The teams would battle closely with each other before Minot State pulled away to win 15-11 to take the set and the match.
Kacie Fortmann set the pace for the Comets offensively. Fortmann put up 20 kills on the evening.
Nicky Carrison contributed nine kills and
Brittany Olson contributed another seven.
Defensively MSU was led by
Ariana Odegard,
Ashley Torgusson, and Fortmann. Odegard came away with 13 digs for the Comets, Torgusson had 12 and Fortmann added another 11.
The loss puts the Comets at 4-22 overall and 2-10 in DAC play. The ladies return to action tomorrow night as they host Dickinson State University at 7:00 in the final home action of the season.
