The Mayville State University volleyball team was hoping to finish the weekend on a winning note as they headed to Minot State University on Saturday, Sept. 2 to continue Dakota Athletic Conference play. But even after a strong start by the Comets, Minot State came out on top to win the match three games to one.
The Comets come out strong and struck first, taking the first set 25-23. Minot State answered right back and took the next set 25-15. With the game tied 1-1 the third set was a hard-fought battle, but the Beavers would come out on top in the end winning a pivotal 25-22 decision. Minot State finished off the match by winning the fourth set 25-19.
Once again
Kacie Fortmann led the Comets offensively. Fortmann compiled 15 kills in the match.
Nicky Carrison and
Ashley Haines also played big roles for the Comet offensively, each contributing eight kills of their own.
Ashley Torgusson and
Emily Liljestrand stood strong on the defensive side. Torgusson came up with 20 digs for the Comets. Liljestrand was right behind her with 19 digs on the evening.
The loss bring the Comets to 2-16 overall and 1-5 in conference play. The Comets continue DAC play this Wednesday, Sept. 6 as they host Dakota State University at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
