The Mayville State University volleyball team was looking to continue their winning ways in today's matchup versus Black Hills State University after their Friday night victory. The Comets had no such luck as they fell at home to the Yellow Jackets 3-1.
Black Hills State jumped out to a quick lead by taking the first set 25-19 and following up with another win in the second. But the Comets weren't going to go away quietly. MSU answered back by taking a closely contested third set 28-26. But from there the Yellow Jackets took control, taking the match by winning the fourth and final set 25-20.
Offensively MSU was led by
Kacie Fortmann,
Ashley Haines and
Nicky Carrison. Fortmann led the way with 16 kills. Ashley Haines followed closely behind with 10. And Nicky Carrison contributed another 8 kills for the Comets.
On the defensive side,
Ashley Torgusson took charge with 15 digs.
Kacie Fortmann also reached the double digits with 10 digs of her own.
Emily Liljestrand and
Brittney Lindgren each contributed 9 and
Ariana Odegard followed up with an additional 8 digs.
The loss puts the Comets at 2-12 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. MSU continues their conference play next Friday and Saturday as they host Jamestown College and Valley City State in another home stand at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
