Jamestown College deals Comets tough sweep in DAC action

The Mayville State University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Jamestown College on Friday to open up Farmer's Bowl weekend action.

The Comets and the Jimmies battled through a tightly contested first set, before Jamestown took it 26-24. From there the Jimmies never let up. Jamestown went on to complete the sweep by taking set two 25-15 and set three 25-10.

Ashley Haines and Kacie Fortmann set the pace for the Comets offensively. Haines led the way with seven kills followed by Fortmann with six.

Ashley Torgusson took charge for the Comets defensively, compiling nine digs. Fortmann contributed another six digs of her own. Emily Liljestrand followed closely behind with five.

The loss puts MSU at 2-13 overall and 1-2 in Dakota Athletic Conference play. Jamestown moves their record to 7-11 overall and 3-0 in the DAC. The Comets continue conference play Saturday at 5:00 when they face rival Valley City State University at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
