MSU Comet football team picks up big win over Dickinson State University

The Mayville State University football team added to its list of accomplishments this season as they defeated Dickinson State University on Saturday in a 15-14 victory at Jerome Berg Field in Mayville.

The win avenged a loss to the Bluehawks earlier this season and marked the first time since 1990 that the Comets have defeated a Dickinson State football squad.

Dickinson scored first in the contest on a two-yard touchdown run by Brennan Haughian before MSU quarterback Jake McLain hit Brandon Berger on a five-yard touchdown strike to answer back. The Comets would fail on a two-point conversion and trailed at that point by a score of 7-6. The Bluehawks got on the board again at the end of the second quarter to make the score 14-6.

McLain found the endzone again in the third quarter to cap off an 80-yard drive. The senior quarterback scampered into the endzone from seven yards out and the Comets would trail 14-12 after another failed two-point conversion attempt.

The Comets would go up at the 12:24 mark of the fourth quarter on a Jay Dyck field goal. From there the Comets won the defensive battle and held the Bluehawks out of the endzone to capture their fourth win of the season.

MSU was led on offense by McLain, who rushed 25 times in the contest for a total of 95 yards. McLain was also 10-for-16 passing for 141 yards through the air. Running back Dominique Bradley carried the ball 13 times for 54 yards.

Taylor Kunkel, Victor Redd, and Dominique Bradley each had three catches in the game for MSU.

Jacob Grosz led the Comets defense with eight tackles and Renard Bryant recorded seven.
