The Mayville State University football team gave No. 16 ranked Valley City State University all they could handle on Saturday, October 29th in a 28-14 loss in Valley City, N.D.
MSU battled back from a 21-0 halftime deficit to make a run at the Vikings before time ran out in a hard-fought battle.
The Comets ran for 254 yards on the ground compared to Valley City's 109 yards rushing. The Comets controlled the clock on offense with a total time of possession of 39:25. VCSU held the ball for 20:35 in the game.
Dominique Bradley had 23 carries for 112 yards with two touchdowns and
Jake McLain rushed 19 times for 87 yards. Valley City had 246 yards passing in the game compared to the Comets' 52 yards through the air. Both teams finished with 18 first downs in the contest
VCSU quarterback Tommy Zinke had three touchdown passes in the first half and added one more in the second to lead the Vikings. Wide receiver Ken Eliacin had three touchdown catches for the Vikings.
MSU's
Nick Rogers led the Comets defense with nine tackles and
Justin Popovich added six.
Josh Jefferies and
Dylan Midstokke had five tackles each.
The Comets are now 4-6 on the year and will wrap up the 2011 season with a home game against Dakota State University on October 5th.
