JAMESTOWN, ND -- Mayville State University traveled to Jamestown for their final game of the 2012 football season. The Jimmies played a good game overall and ran away with a victory due to a strong third quarter performance.

Down 20-0 in the second quarter the Comets were able to put some points on the board before the break when Jason Holmes took a punt 75 yards for a touchdown. At the half Mayville State trailed 20-6.

The third quarter was where Jamestown put their foot on the gas and did not let up. The Jimmies outscored Mayville State 27-0 after the break and took a 47-6 lead to the fourth quarter.

The Comets got their second touchdown of the day with just under a minute to play when Tanner Carpenter recovered a fumble in the end zone. The extra point was good and the Comet season ended with a 53-13 defeat to the Jimmies.

Defensively the Comets were led by Travis Ahlgren with 10 tackles including one for a loss. Josh Jefferies and Brandon Jones followed with nine tackles each.

The Comet offense couldn't get it going today totaling just 99 yards against the Jimmie defense. Homer Reed and Dominique Bradley each rushed for 37 yards in the game to lead the team. Taylor Kunkel led the receivers catching two passes for 28 yards. Bradley had one catch for 13 yards and Homer Reed added one catch for a two yard gain.
