Comets Win 3 of 4 on the Road

The Comet volleyball team traveled to Mitchell, SD over Labor Day weekend for a four game tournament. The Comets took on Mount Marty, University of Sioux Falls, York College, and Dakota Wesleyan over a span of two days.

In the opening round the Comets took care of business against Mount Marty defeating them in 3 straight sets (25-18, 25-13, 25-15). Maggie Maroney had a game high 9 kills. Hannah Smith added 6 kills to go along with her 14 digs.

In game two the Comets took on a NCAA division 2 school in the University of Sioux Falls. The Comets won 2 out of the first 3 matches, but the University of Sioux Falls came storming back to take the next two matches giving the Comets their first loss of the year 3-2 (28-26, 14-25, 25-19, 23-25, 9-15). Josette Glatt led the Comets with a game high 13 kills. Hannah Smith added 12 kills and the setter Molly Hurrle had 39 assists.

In the opening game of day 2 the Comets defeated York College in 3 straight sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-18). Hannah Smith had a game high 14 kills. Ashley Torgusson added 16 digs and Molly Hurrle had 29 assists to go along with her 10 digs.

In the final game of the tournament the Comets took on the host team in Dakota Welseyan University. After losing the first match the Comets went on to win the next three for a final of 3-1 (23-25, 25-8, 25-22, 25-16). Josette Glatt led the way for the Comets with 18 kills. Hannah Smith added 14 kills. Molly Hurrle had a game high 49 assists.

Mayville State now 9-1 will be on the road for their next game on September 5th as the Comets will take on Jamestown College. Game time is set for 7 pm.
