Mayville Beats Concordia

Comet Volleyball defeats Concordia in 5 Set Thriller

Remington Werner played the best game she has played all season tonight with a team high 19 kills in a 3-2 victory over Concordia College (25-22, 22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-8). She also protected the net well as she was in on 5 block attempts out of the 26 total for the team.

Blocks and errors were the two big keys to victory in this match. Mayville State had a 17-9 advantage in blocks and had players working together with 26 block attempts featuring six players. The Comets biggest advantage was errors.

Concordia committed 45 attack errors compared to just 20 for Mayville State. The Comet defense from the blockers up front to the back row getting digs made the difference. Four players had over 10 digs for Mayville State. Paige O'Connor led with 22 followed by Katie Wangberg with 15, Betsy Smith's 13 and Sydney Boom with 12.

Josette Glatt also had a good night with 15 kills and 4 block assists.

The Comets have now climbed over .500 at 14-13 on the season with a 5-1 record in the North Star Athletic Association. They redeemed themselves after a 3-1 loss to the Cobbers on September 3rd in Moorhead, MN.

The Comets next action is Wednesday, October 16th 2013 at the University of Jamestown for their second match-up with the Jimmies. The Comets fell to the Jimmies 3-2 on September 18th, 2013.
