Comets Prove Too Tough for Vikings

MSU improves to 6-2 in NSAA play with victory over Vikings

MAYVILLE, N.D. – The Comet volleyball team wrapped up their 2013 conference schedule with a victory over Valley City State University. MSU beat the Vikings in four sets by scores of 25-17, 25-20, 21-25, & 25-21.

The victory was win number 17 for Mayville State University this season bringing their overall record to 17-16 and their NSAA record to 6-2.

The Comets got out to a fast start winning the first two sets before VCSU got one back in the third. After a good back-and-forth in the fourth set MSU was too tough in the end and pulled away from the Vikings to complete the victory.

The Comet attackers were balanced in this match with three players knocking in more than 10 kills. Josette Glatt led the way with 13, Kaitlyn Timian followed with 11, and Remington Werner finished with 10.

Katie Wangberg had another stellar performance handing out assists with a match-high 38 for the Comets. She also finished with 10 digs and seven kills. The junior continues to have a great first year in Comet blue.

Paige O'Connor was the leader in digs in the match with 34 for Mayville State, doing a great job keeping the ball alive and allowing Wangberg and the attackers to look for kills. Betsy Smith followed O'Connor with 12 digs in the match.

MSU was +7 in attack errors in the match, which proved to be a big factor in the victory.

The Comets now have just four games remaining in the regular season before the North Star Athletic Association conference tournament begins on November 2, 2013. The Comets will enter the tournament as the #2 seed and host a second round tournament game on November 6.
