The Comets Volleyball team split a pair of Conference matches over the weekend, dropping a close 5 set match to Dakota State on Friday and sweeping Presentation College on Saturday.
The Comets started strong on Friday against Dakota State, using an 11-2 run to finish set one 25-19. Set 2 was close throughout until the Comets scored the last 5 points to win 25-20. Set 3 was another barn-burner, but this time Dakota State finished strong and won 25-21. Game 4 continued the trend of close matches, and once again Dakota State was able to scratch out enough points to send the match to a 5th set, winning 26-24. The Trojans opened up an early lead in set 5 and managed to hold on to win 15-11.
Katie Wangberg hit double figures in three categories to lead the Comets, notching 10 Kills, 48 Assists and 21 Digs.
Josette Glatt recorded 20 Kills,
Remington Werner added 14 Kills, and
Paige O'Connor came up with 31 Digs.
The Comets had a quick turnaround as the Presentation College Saints came into town Saturday morning looking to spoil Homecoming. Mayville State used an 8-1 run in the middle of set one to gain a lead they would never relinquish, winning set one 25-21. The Saints managed to take an early lead in set two at 10-7, but the Comets stormed back behind a balanced attack to take set 2 25-18. The Comets completed the sweep, scoring the last five points of set three to win 25-20. Glatt led the Comets with 13 Kills, Wangberg contributed 25 Assists and O'Connor dug out 18 shots.
Mayville State is now 11-9 overall, with a 3-2 record in the North Star. The homestand continues on Wednesday, with Dickinson State coming to the Lewy Lee on Wednesday, October 8th @ 700pm.
