The Comets Volleyball team finished the season #3 in the North Star Conference by splitting their games over the weekend.
The Comets traveled to Madison, South Dakota to take on Dakota State. The winner of this matchup would most likely end up the #2 seed for the NSAA tournament. The Trojans managed to win Set 1 25-21. Set 2 was also tight, but Dakota State managed to pull out a 25-20 victory to go up 2 sets to 0. In the matchup at Mayville State, the Comets jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Dakota State stormed back, so there was a possibility that Mayville State could return the favor down there. Unfortunately, Dakota State managed to squeak past the Comets 25-23 in Set 3.
Josette Glatt and
Kaitlyn Timian shared kill honors with 11,
Katie Wangberg contributed 34 assists and Wangberg (16),
Gretchen Freed (12) and
Paige O'Connor (11) all reached double figures in digs.
The Comets had a quick turnaround time as they faced Presentation College in an afternoon game Saturday. The Comets started off on a positive note by winning Set 1 25-21. Mayville State poured on the pressure by handily winning Set 2 25-16. There was to be no thoughts of a comeback by the Saints, as the Comets finished off the sweep by winning 25-20.
Remington Werner and Glatt each recorded 13 kills, Wangberg once again recorded 34 assists, and 3 Comets esclipsed double figures in digs - O'Connor with 14, Wangberg with 11 and
Kayla Lundon with 10.Â
The Comets finish the regular season with an 19-12 record, 6-4 in the North Star. Pairings for the NSAA Tournament will be announced later in the week.
