In an early Top 25 matchup, the #9 Concordia (Nebraska) Bulldogs escaped with an 89-79 victory over the #17 Comets at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
The Bulldogs opened the game with heavy full-court pressure and raced out to an early 13-0 lead. Mayville State settled down after that and managed to trim the lead to 7 midway through the first half. A late 13-7 run by the Bulldogs boosted their lead back up to 17 at the half, 50-33. Concordia's pressure took a toll, and with 15 minutes left stretched their lead to 72-43. The Comets started to chip away at the lead, but the Bulldogs held firm until around the 8 minute mark. After that, the shots started to fall for Mayville State, and they cut the lead down to 9 points with less than a minute to play. Unfortunately, the Comets ran out of time and the Bulldogs left down with an 89-79 win.
Liza Hoglo had a fantastic game, with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals.
Karleigh Weber went 6-9 from the field and finished with 16 points, and
Andi Gayner also grabbed 9 rebounds.Â
This loss evens the Comets record at 1-1 for the year. Mayville State is back in action next weekend with games against Ogala College and Dakota Wesleyan.
