The Comets Men's Basketball team faced a stiff contest against the #2 ranked Midland Warriors, but almost pulled off the major upset before falling in overtime.
The game was close throughout, as the biggest lead for either team in the game was 7. The Comets proved to the Warriors early that this was not going to be a walkover, as they raced out to a 7-2 lead. The Warriors battled back and the lead changed hands multiple times in the first half, and Midland clung to a one point lead at the half, 32-31. The Warriors slowly added to their lead in the 2nd half, and looked to be in control with 7 minutes left leading 50-43. Led by
Jamal Branco and
A.B. Najee, the Comets then went on an 13-3 run, taking a 56-53 lead with less than a minute to go. Midland knocked down a 3-pointer with seconds left, and pushed the game into overtime. The Comets were unable to get much offense going in the OT period, while Midland made 10-12 free throws to escape with a 68-62 victory.
3 Comets hit double figures in scoring, with Branco taking team honors with 18. Najee and
