The Comets Men's Basketball team got right back to work after the Thanksgiving break as they hosted the Waldorf Warriors on Saturday.
The Comets sprinted out of the gate by scoring the first 8 points of the game. The Warriors climbed back into the game by hitting the offensive glass (7 offensive rebounds in the first half) and behind a barrage of fouls by Mayville State, as the Warriors attempted 20 free throws in the first half. By halftime, Waldorf was clinging to a 2 point lead. The second half started like the first, as the Comets scored the first 9 points of the half. The Warriors fought back to tie around the 12 minute mark, but couldn't retake the lead. Mayville State turned the tables on the Warriors by crashing the offensive glass and getting to the free throw line, and expanded their lead to double digits. A couple of late 3 pointers made the score closer, but the Comets won the game 75-69.
4 Comets reached double figures with
A.B. Najee leading the way with 16.
Chuck Robinson scored 15 points, ripped down 15 rebounds and swatted away 4 shots.
Jamal Branco recorded 14 points, 5 assists and 4 steals, and
Darnell Landon chipped in 13 points.
The Comets' record now stands at 4-3 for the season. Mayville State is back in action on Tuesday, December 2nd against the University of Minnesota-Morris. Game time is 730 P.M.
