The Comets Men's Basketball team traveled down to Morris, MN to battle the UM-Morris Cougars. They had to play 5 extra minutes, but pulled out a 77-72 victory.
The first half was tight throughout, as neither team could expand a lead. The Cougars took the biggest lead into halftime with a score of 34-28. 11 first half turnovers stalled any sort of attack the Comets could muster. Morris held onto the lead for the first 13 minutes of the second half before Mayville finally tied the game up at 58. The lead switched hands a couple times in the last 7 minutes, but when the buzzer sounded, the score was knotted at 66. The Comets hurt themselves by only going 3/9 from the free throw line during regulation, but managed to hit 5 of 6 in the extra frame to pull away from the Cougars, winning 77-72.
Chuck Robinson continued his double-double streak by scoring 19 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking 5 shots.
A.B. Najee added 17 points and 4 assists, and
Jamal Branco recorded 10 points and 4 assists.
The Comets winning streak extends to 6 games! Next Friday they travel to Iowa to take on the Waldorf Warriors.
