The Comets Men's Basketball team looked to continue their winning ways with a home tilt against the Johnson & Wales Cougars.
The Comets completely stifled any sort of offensive attack early, and sprinted out to a 21-6 lead after 10 minutes. The Cougars were able to cut into that lead slightly as Mayville State missed 11 of 13 first-half 3 point attempts, but the Comets still enjoyed a 12 point lead at halftime. While the cold shooting from deep continued in the second half, the Comets were able to convert from close range on a number of drives and putbacks. Mayville State was able to boost the lead back over 20 and held that through the end of the game, winning by the score of 71-49.
A.B. Najee led all scorers with 18 points, and also added 2 steals.
Chuck Robinson extended his consecutive double-double streak to 4 with 14 points and 16 rebounds while also blocking 3 shots.
Jamal Branco also finished in double figures with 10 points and handed out 7 assists, and
Jordan Villebrun grabbed 12 rebounds.
The win brings Mayville State's record to 6-3 on the year. The Comets travel to Moorhead on Monday night for an exhibition game against the Dragons.
