The Comets Men's Basketball looked to add a quality road win against the 9-6 Viterbo Hawks.
The Hawks started strong, as they opened up a 14-5 lead after 5 minutes. The Comets responded by scoring the next 10 points to take a one point lead. The Hawks countered by retaking the lead and holding on into halftime up 33-27. The Comets started the second half with an 8-2 surge to tie things up. Once again, Viterbo countered and boosted the lead back up to 5. A
David Olson 3 pointer with 6:24 to go gave Mayville State a lead they would not give up. The Comets went 6-6 from the free throw line in the last 16 seconds to burst any thoughts of a last comeback for the Hawks, and left Wisconsin with a 68-62 victory.
Chuck Robinson led a very balanced scoring attack with 13 points and 6 rebounds.
Jamal Branco recorded his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 assists, and Olson hit all 4 of his shots for 10 points.
The Comets are now 10-5 on the season, and return home to face Crossroads College on 1/12, tipoff is 600pm.
