Box Score The Comets Women's Basketball team opened NSAA Conference play by hosting new member Viterbo. Thanks to sizzling shooting from behind the arc, Mayville State cruised to a 93-51 win.
The Comets hot shooting began from the opening tip, as
Joelle Ertl connected from deep on their first possession. Mayville added six more enroute to a 26-9 first quarter lead. The second quarter was more of the same, as
Jenna Lundon went 5/8 from the 3pt line. Mayville State also outrebounded the V-Hawks in the second 12-6, contributing to a 52-25 halftime lead.
With Viterbo scrambling to cover the perimeter, that opened up opportunities in the paint and the Comets took advantage in the third as they went 6/8 in the paint. Mayville State's defense matched their offense, as they held Viterbo to 3/21 shooting in the third, expanding their lead to 70-33. Both teams utilized their full roster in the fourth, and the Comets opened up NSAA play with a 93-51 victory.
As a team, the Comets shot 54% from the field, and a blistering 17/32 from behind the arc. Lundon went 8/12 from deep enroute to 30 points.
Liza Hoglo chipped in 12 points,
Alexia Olson added 10 points and 11 rebounds, and
Andi Gayner reached double figures with 10. Ertl dished out 7 assists. For the V-Hawks, Riley Budde led the team with 10 points, Whitney Hanson grabbed 6 rebounds, and Kassi Hofschild contributed 3 steals.
The Comets are now 4-0 on the season, 1-0 in the NSAA. Viterbo drops to 0-2 overall and in the NSAA.
