Box Score The Comets Men's Basketball team hosted the Morningside Mustangs on Saturday, and with a balanced offensive attack and 59% shooting from deep the Comets won 89-74.
Both teams may have been feeling the effects of the Thanksgiving holiday, as both offenses started slow. The Comets were able to score on eight of nine possessions midway through the first half to open up a 29-18 lead and managed to take a 45-35 lead into halftime. Mayville State splashed 8 of 12 from deep and dominated the boards with a 24-12 advantage. The Comets opened up the second half with some turnovers and the Mustangs took full advantage, scoring the first 10 points of the half to tie the game up. The game continued to stay tight until nine minutes left, when Mayville State went on a 12-0 run. The lead never dipped below 6 points the rest of the game, and the Comets pulled away to win 89-74. Mayville State went 13 of 22 from 3 point land and maintained their rebounding edge, collecting 42 to the Mustangs' 27.
A.B. Najee led six comets in double figures with 21, including 5 of 7 from beyond the arc and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Darnell Landon added 15 points,
Jamal Branco chipped in 13 and dshed out 8 assists,
Antar Johnson and
Chuck Robinson each recorded 12, with Robinson hauling down 8 boards and
Conor Quinn finished with 11.
The Comets record now stands at 5-3. Mayville State's travels to Morris, MN on Wednesday to battle the UMM Cougars.
