The Comets Football team looked to avenge their Homecoming loss to Jamestown in a rematch at the Dacotah Bank Bowl in Fargo. Jamestown was able to jump out to a sizeable first half lead and held on to win 28-18.
The Jimmies scored on their opening drive, taking an early 7-0 lead. The first quarter ended with the Comets in the middle of an 11 play, 85 yard drive that ended with an
Andrew Blake to
Chris Mayes 11 yard strike, getting the Comets within a point 7-6. Jamestown scored again later in the 2
nd to go up 14-6. A Comet interception on the next drive led to another Jimmie touchdown and Mayville State went into halftime down 21-6.
The Jimmies continued to expand their lead with a touchdown early in the third quarter to 28-6 and the Comets were staring at a huge deficit going into the fourth. Mayville State got going early with a 62 yard bomb from Blake to
Jacob Robbins to cut the deficit to 28-12. The Comets were able to piece together another long drive with
Ricky Smith scoring from a yard out to get the Comets within 10 at 28-18 with three minutes left. Mayville State was unable to convert the 2pt conversion so it was still a two score game. The Comets were able to block a Jamestown punt with 1:30 left in the game but were not able to get back into the end zone.
Mayville State's offense was paced by Robbins, who had 8 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown. Blake threw for 283 yards and 2 scores and
Homer Reed rushed for 53. Defensively,
Blaine Miller led the team with 10 tackles and
Jason Smith collected an interception.
The Comets end their 2015 season with a 5-5 record, 3-3 in the NSAA.
