Comets MBB Unable to Solve Bellevue

Box Score The Comets Men's Basketball team looked to get their first NSAA win of the season in their only matchup against the Bellevue Bruins. Mayville State was able to get out to an early lead but were unable to hold on in an 81-71 defeat.

The first half was a foul-plagued affair, with the teams combining for 26 fouls. The Comets were able to jump out to an early 28-19 lead due to their 12 for 14 performance from the line. Bellevue started getting to the line late in the half and used that to spur a 20-6 kick to finish the half up 39-34. The Bruins kept the momentum in the second half to bump up their lead to 60-41 with 14 minutes left to play. The Comets started to chop down the lead, and managed to get to within five points in the final minute. Bellevue was able to hit clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the victory 81-71. Both teams shot 23/56 from the field, but the Bruins connected on 23 of 30 free throws for the difference. 

Conor Quinn led the Comet attack with 15 points off the bench, followed by Antar Johnson and Darnell Landon with 13 points apiece. Chuck Robinson grabbed 7 rebounds and Jamal Branco dished out 6 assists.

Bellevue's Nicolus Guzman led all scorers with 23, followed by Mike Cardenas with 13 and Olutola Olushosa with 10. Carl Robinson filled up the box score with 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.

The loss drops Mayville State's record to 5-6 on the season, while Bellevue now stands at 9-4.
