Box Score The Comets Men's Basketball team looked to finish 2015 on a high note when they hosted the UM-Morris Cougars Friday night. Mayville State used a 21-5 run early in the second half to wipe out a double-figure deficit and defeat the Cougars 80-75.

The first half saw Morris take an early lead by hitting 7 3 pointers while the Comets were ice cold from deep, connecting on only 1 of 10 shots. Mayville State managed to trim the deficit to one point with five minutes remaining in the half, only for the Cougars to score the last eight points to pull ahead 34-25. The Cougars boosted the lead to 12 shortly after halftime, The threesome of Darnell Landon, Jamal Branco and Antar Johnson scored the next 26 points for the Comets, turning that deficit into a 4 point lead halfway through the second half. Once Mayville State regained the lead, they never let it go, answering every Cougar attempt with offense of their own. Once Morris needed to foul, the Comets sealed the game by hitting 5 of 6 free throws to win 80-75. Mayville State did a complete 180 from the 3 point line, nailing 8 of 14 attempts in the second half.

Landon notched a new career high with 23 points to lead all scorers. Johnson used five treys to establish his career high of 21 while also pulling down 9 rebounds, and Branco added 21 while handing out 5 assists. Jordan Villebrun contributed stout interior defense to add to his 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.

The Comets now stand at 6-6 overall. Their next action won't be until 2016 when they host Oglala College on 1/2.
