Box Score The Comets Women's Basketball team hosted the UM-Morris Cougars on Friday night looking to cap off 2015 with a win. Crisp passing by Mayville State led to multiple layups and 3 pointers enroute to an 81-63 win.
The offense was humming from the opening tip as
Jenna Lundon nailed a trey on the Comets first possession, paving the way to 26 1st quarter points and an eight point lead. Both offenses slowed down in the second quarter but Mayville State managed to boost their lead to double figures by halftime, leading 43-32. The Comets' defense shined in the third quarter, limiting the Cougars to only 11 points while pouring in 21 of their own, expanding their lead to 64-43. Mayville State continued to ping the ball around the court for uncontested shots, quashing any hopes for a Cougar comeback, and cruised to an 81-63 victory. The Comets racked up 23 assists on 30 made field goals and connected on 12 3 pointers while holding Morris to 37% from the field.
Lundon drained 7 from deep on her way to a game-high 24 points, and added 6 assists as well.
Liza Hoglo added another 20-10 to her stellar career with 20 points and 12 rebounds,
Joelle Ertl chipped in 19 points, Andi Gayner notched 16 points and 3 steals, and Alexis Olsen blocked 3 shots.
The Comets go into the Christmas break with a record of 8-5, and return to action 1/3 against Clarke University.
