The Comets Women's Basketball team traveled to Jamestown looking to enter the NSAA Tournament on a 5 game winning streak.
Mayville State bolted to an early 14-5 lead by connecting on their first four 3-pointers. Jamestown stormed back using a strategy that had been successful for the Comets during this winning streak - crashing the boards and getting to the free throw line. The Jimmies outrebounded the Comets 26-15 and made 15 trips to the free throw line versus only four for Mayville State. This combination led to a 35-30 lead for Jamestown at the half. The Comets came back to tie the score three minutes into the second half, but the Jimmies managed to slowly stretch out the lead to double digits, and Jamestown pounded the ball inside with success to stifle any attempt at a comeback, winning 79-68.
Liza Hoglo led the Comets with 19 points and 8 rebounds, followed by
Andi Gayner with 17,
Karleigh Weber with 11, and
Joelle Ertl finished with 10 points and 3 assists.Â
The Comets finish the regular season with a 17-7 record, 6-4 in conference play. Mayville State will open the NSAA Tournament at home against Dickinson State Wednesday 2/25, tipoff @ 700.
