The Comets Men's Basketball team traveled to South Dakota to open their NSAA Tournament against the Presentation College Saints.
The Comets started out on fire from the field and opened up a 25-8 lead. The Saints were able to chip away at the lead by forcing a number of turnovers and scored the last nine points of the first half to close within eight, 38-30. The Saints knocked the lead down to one early in the second half, but the Comets continued to hold them off, continuing their trend of excellent shooting. However, turnovers plagued the Comets in the second half as well, keeping the game close. In the end, Mayville State made enough plays to hold off the Saints and advance in the NSAA tournament by a score of 72-66. The Comets shot 57% from the field and outrebounded the Saints 35-17, but 24 turnovers prevented the margin from eclipsing double digits.
Chuck Robinson led a balanced Comet attack with 15 points and 2 blocks, followed by
Darnell Landon with 12 points and 7 rebounds.
A.B. Najee added 12 points as well, and
Michael Lindsay also reached double figures with 11.
The victory boosts the Comets record to 18-10, and they travel back to South Dakota to battle Dakota State in the NSAA Semifinals, tipoff is Sunday @ 600pm.
