The Comets Women's Basketball team opened a 4 game homestand against some familiar opponents, the Valley City State Vikings.
Neither team shot the ball well in the first half, as the Comets shot 27% from the field while the Vikings only managed 36%. The Comets were also careless with the ball, committing 12 turnovers. However, they were aggressive to the basket and hit their free throws to only trail by 4 at half, 29-33. However, Valley City caught fire in the 2nd half, scoring 38 points on 31 field goal attempts, and pulled away from the Comets. Forced to foul, the Comets put the Vikings on the free throw line, where they converted 15 of 16 attempts to win 86-67.
Jenna Lundon led all scorers with 21.
Joelle Ertl also hit double figures with 10 points and also dished out 5 assists.
Alyssa Blair pulled down 7 boards,
Andi Gayner blocked 2 shots and
Alyssa Lentner added 2 steals.
The loss drops the Comets record to 13-6, 2-3 in the North Star. Dickinson State comes to town Saturday night, tipoff is @ 400.
