Box Score The Comets Women's Basketball team hosted the Presentation Saints on Wednesday, looking to halt a two game conference slide. An unrelenting Comets defense forced the Saints to 27% shooting while blistering the nets at a 57% pace led to an 83-51 win.
Mayville State hit five 3-pointers in a 27 point first quarter to sprint out to a 13 point lead. Neither team could get their offense revving in the second quarter, but the Comets were able to add two points to their lead by halftime, 41-26. The third quarter was pivotal, as Presentation could not buy a bucket, even with hitting the offensive glass hard. (8 offensive rebounds). The Saints only shot 3/24 from the field in the third while the Comets connected on 8/11 shots to take a commanding 62-32 lead. The fourth quarter played about even, and Mayville cruised to an 82-52 victory. The Comets gave up 15 offensive boards and committed 23 turnovers, but held the Saints Haley Froelich (25.5/game) to only 9 points and shot 50% from deep and 57% overall to more than make up for it.
Liza Hoglo led four Comets in double figures with 21 and added 6 assists.
Jenna Lundon and
Andi Gayner each scored 16, with Lundon corralling a career-high 12 rebounds, followed by
Joelle Ertl with 13.
Cora Lopez led Presentation with 18 points, followed by Froelich with 9. Kathryn Thomas grabbed 7 boards and Krystan Gomez added 5 assists and 3 steals.
The win brings the Comets overall record to 13-7 Overall, 4-2 NSAA. Mayville hits the road for the next three games, traveling to South Dakota to battle Dakota State on Saturday.
