Box Score The Comets Volleyball team started their final week of regular season play by hosting the Valley City State Vikings on Wednesday. The Vikings got the points when they mattered most in defeating the Comets in three sets.
In set one, the Vikings would sneak out to small leads, only to see the Comets come right back with a burst of their own. However, Valley City would score six of the last seven points of the set to win 25-20. In set two it was Mayville State that initially opened up a small advantage 11-7, but the Vikings went on a 9-1 run to take a lead they would never relinquish, winning set two 25-20. Valley City was able to jump out to a 16-9 lead in set three, only to see Mayville State claw back to within 2. The Vikings finished the match with three consecutive service aces to win 25-19.
Hannah Bliss led the Comet attack with 14 kills,
Megan Kolness finished with 24 assists,
TaLise Hansen recorded 18 digs and
Joely Christianson added three total blocks. For the Vikings, Clarissa Olson collected 11 kills, Taylor Balkan racked up 39 assists and 16 digs, and Hailie Wilds added three service aces.
The Comets record is now 11-23 overall, 3-11 in conference. The Comets hit the road this weekend with matches against Jamestown on Friday and Dickinson State on Saturday.Â
