Box Score The Comets Women's Basketball team traveled to Presentation Saturday to take on the Saints. Mayville State went to the line 41 times and connected on 34 of them to propel them to an 82-73 win.
The Saints hot shooting from the field gave them a small advantage throughout the first quarter and finished with a 23-19 lead after 10 minutes. The Comets took control of the game with a 17-4 run in the second fueled by
Andi Gayner who scored 10 points in that run. The Comets went into halftime with a 45-36 lead. Presentation was able to slice the lead to 49-46 about halfway through the third quarter but the Comets responded with nine straight points to bump the lead back into double figures. The quarter ended with the same nine point margin at 60-51. In the fourth, the Saints made another run, getting to within a point at 74-73, but Mayville State hit some clutch free throws when Presentation had to foul to stop the clock, and completed the win 82-73.Â
Claire Blascziek led the Comets with 29 points, including 17/18 free throws and added six rebounds and four steals. Gayner was close behind with 26,
Karleigh Weber added 10 points and six rebounds and
Andrea Skillingstad finished with three blocks.
The Comets record now stands at 4-5, 1-2 in conference. Mayville State heads to Jamestown Saturday to face the #10 Jimmies.
