The Comets Men's Basketball team traveled down to South Dakota needing a win against the Presentation College Saints. Behind a sterling defensive effort, the Comets got that vital win 68-57.
The Saints got out to a fast start, taking an early 8-2 lead. The Comets stormed back with an 18-4 run of their own to retake the lead 20-12 halfway thru the first. Both teams' defenses clamped down after that, with the Comets going into halftime with a 28-21 lead. After that initial flurry, the Saints only scored 13 points in the last 17 minutes of the half. The Comets held the Saints to 26.3% shooting in the first half. Presentation slowly battled its way back and managed to tie the game at 46 with 8:33 left to play, and even hold a 51-48 lead with 5:46 to play. The Comets then took control with a final 20-6 barrage, including 12/16 from the line when the Saints resorted to fouling in order to get the ball back, winning its 15th game of the season 68-57. For the game, the Comets forced 18 Saint turnovers and allowed only a 29% field goal rate.
Jordan Villebrun led a balanced Comet attack with 14, followed by
Terrance Lockett with 10.
Jamal Branco added 9 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals.
The win boosts the Comets record to 15-10, 5-7 in the NSAA. Valley City (Wednesday) and Jamestown (Saturday) come to the Lewy Lee next week.
