Box Score The Comets Men's Basketball team looked to send their seniors out on a winning note against Jamestown. In a back and forth contest, the Comets pulled out a 65-63 win.
The Comets defense was in high gear in the first half, as they any sort of Jimmie offensive attack. An 11-1 run in the middle of the first half boosted the Comets to a 23-11 lead. Jamestown was able to chip away at that lead the rest of the way, and clawed to within a bucket by halftime, 29-27. The Comets held the Jimmies to only 31% shooting but could only get to the free throw line twice, negating some of that advantage. The game remained tight until the 10 minute mark, when Jamestown went on a 10-0 run to take a 54-46 lead. It was Mayville's turn to forge a comeback, and they tied the game at 61 on a
Jamal Branco 3 pointer with 1:22 left. Jamestown's Logan Brown struck back quickly to bump the lead back to two.
Darnell Landon electrified the home crowd with a thunderous dunk with 40 seconds left to tie it up again.
Chuck Robinson then came up with the biggest steal of the Comets season, giving Mayville a chance to win outright. Branco nailed a 10 ft pullup jumper with nine seconds left and Jamestown's three pointer to win fell short, giving the Comets a 65-63 win.
Landon led all scorers with 21 points, followed by Robinson with 15 and Branco with 9 points, 7 boards, 7 assists and 2 steals.
Brown, Brequan Tucker and John Purintin paced Jamestown with 10 points each, and Jacob Havron added 5 rebounds and 2 blocks.
The Comets wrap up their regular season with a 16-11 record, and await their first round opponent in the conference tournament.
