Box Score The Comets Women's Basketball Team opened NSAA Tournament play by hosting Dakota State at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. The Comets grabbed an early lead and held off a Trojan run towards the end in an 88-79 victory.
The Comets opened strong in the first, sprinting out to a 12-0 lead. Some sloppy play allowed the Trojans to close to 12-9. Mayville State held on to their lead after 10 minutes, 20-16. The game stayed relatively even throughout the second, but a 7-2 run at the end boosted the Comet lead to 39-31 at half. The Comets poured in 21 points from deep in the first half compared to 6 for Dakota State. The third quarter was a carbon copy of the second, as both teams played even, with a Mayville State run at the end expanded the lead to 13, 59-46. The Trojans ground away at the lead in the final stanza, led by Sharee Galbraith's 20 fourth quarter points. The Trojans were able to get within 5, but the Comets converted nine free throws at the end to seal the win 88-79. The Comets hit 15 3's in the game and got to the line 40 times for their keys to victory.
Jenna Lundon exploded for a career-high 34 points,
Liza Hoglo followed with 19 points and 11 rebounds,
Andi Gayner added 13 points and 3 steals and
Karleigh Weber scored 13.
Galbraith finished with 30 points for the game in addition to 10 rebounds and 2 blocks. Madison Walford hit 19 points, BreeAna Olson added 13 points and 5 steals and Kennedy Wagner dished out 5 assists.
The Comets are now 16-12 on the season and advance to the NSAA Semifinals where they will face Jamestown Friday night at 9 pm.
