The Comets Women's Basketball team needed to upset the #9 Jamestown Jimmies to advance to the NSAA Championship game and shot at the National Tournament. Unfortunately, turnovers and foul trouble proved to be too much to overcome in an 85-73 defeat.
The Comets hit their first two 3 point attempts of the game, but only added one FG the rest of the quarter. A sterling 10/12 from the free throw line kept them within a point after 10 minutes, 19-18. The Jimmies used a 12-4 run to open the second quarter to open up a nine point lead. The Comets were able to reduce that lead to six by halftime, 33-27. Jamestown used a 9-0 run in the third to boost their lead from nine to 18, but once again the Comets were able to trim the deficit to 10 by the end of the third quarter. Mayville got to within 67-61 but foul trouble made getting over that final hump difficult. Three starters ended up fouling out and Jamestown hit 14/18 from the free throw line to keep the Comets out of reach on their way to an 85-73 win. Mayville went 29/32 from the line for the game, but committed 23 turnovers inaddition to the foul issues.
Liza Hoglo led the Comets in scoring with 20, and eclipsed 1500 points for her career.
Joelle Ertl added 15 and 4 assists,
Jenna Lundon chipped in 14 and collected 3 steals,
Andi Gayner scored 10,
Karleigh Weber grabbed 8 rebounds and
Alicia Nopola blocked 2 shots.
The loss ends the Comets season at 16-13.Â
