Box Score The Comets Football team wrapped up their non-conference schedule with a game against Trinity Bible College Lions. After a slow start, the Comets rolled to a 35-6 victory.
Mayville State opened the scoring five minutes in as
Andrew Blake found
Jacob Lawrence for a 30 yard TD strike. Â However, turnovers plagued the Comets once again in the first half, as three fumbles prevented the Comets from adding any points. One of those fumbles gave the Lions good field position and they capitalized with a short TD run, making the score 7-6. On the last play of the first half,
Dondrei Hubbard launches a 51 yard Hail Mary that found
Khari Kimbrough in the end zone, and the Comets went to the locker room with a 14-6 lead and all the momentum.
Mayvile State got the ball to open the second half and quickly marched down the field, with
Superrior Reid finding the end zone from four yards out that boosted the lead to 21-6. Both defenses dug in the rest of the third quarter, but the Comets were able to break through early in the fourth as Blake hit
Dantrel Horne with a 25 yard TD throw to go up 28-6. Hubbard finished the scoring with a 15 yard TD run late in the fourth to make the final score 35-6.
Blake led the Comet attack with 323 yards and 2 scores, with Kimbrough collecting 120 of those yards and a TD.
L.J. McMorris added 77 yards on the ground and
Donte Stevens recorded 5 tackles, with 2.5 tackles for loss.
The Comets evened their record at 2-2 on the season. After a week off, the Comets open their conference schedule with a Homecoming game against Valley City on October 8th.
