Comets Lose to Trojans

The Comets took on Dakota State on Saturday afternoon, the Trojans came into this afternoon's matchup with a 6-3 record looking to move forward in the NSAA conference standings. 

The Comets were looking for answers early. Both teams struggled to do much early in the game, exchanging possessions throughout the first quarter. The Trojans were able to put a score on the board to start the second quarter to make things 7-0, with Dakota State taking the lead. 

From there, MSU was looking for answers on offense all day. Dakota State took advantage of good field position and was able to string together scoring drives by leaning on the MSU defense and forcing the Comets into tough situations. The Trojans scored right before half to make it 20-0 with Dakota State leading. 

The Trojans were able to take the second half kickoff and turn that into a score on the first drive of the second half. With Dakota State leading 27-0, the Comets turned to a passing game that needed to score quickly. The Trojans were ready. MSU struggled to get much going once they fell behind, the Comets were able to crack the scoreboard with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Nickolas Nelson to Darrel Wilson to make it 27-6. 

The Trojans held strong on defense and added another score late in the game to stay in control and take this NSAA matchup. Jacob Giles was able to throw for 222 yards by going 19-32, completing five touchdowns for the Trojans. Jeb Sanford added 83 yards rushing for DSU, and Darrel Wilson brought in three catches for 48 yards and a score for MSU. 

The Comets finish their season next Saturday against Dickinson State, that game is located out in Dickinson and kickoff is set for 2:00 PM CST.
