Comets Women's Basketball Add 6 Recruits for 2017-18 Season

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ADDS SIX TO 2017-18 ROSTER

The Mayville State Women's Basketball team has added six incoming freshmen to their squad for the 2017-18 season.  The Comets have a rather large squad for next year, as they return 14 players off of this year's team.  The Comets finished last season with an overall record of 17-12 and advanced to the semi-finals of the NSAA Tournament as well.  Here are the six players with a little bit of information about them, including why they chose to continue their education and athletic careers at Mayville State.

Sydney Magsum
Sydney comes to Mayville State from Climax Fisher High School in Minnesota.  Sydney was chosen as her team's MVP this past year, as well as being selected to the All-Conference Team.  Why Sydney chose Mayville State:  "I liked the Women's Basketball program, it reminds me a lot of my high school team.  I think I will fit in very well and hope to contribute to the team immediately".  Sydney plans to study Education at Mayville State.

Lexi Carpenter
Lexi comes to Mayville State from Northern Cass High School in North Dakota.  Lexi received numerous awards her senior season at Northern Cass, including:  Team MVP, Top Scorer and Top Free Throw Percentage.  Why Lexi chose Mayville State: "I was looking for a small school experience.  I have grown up coming to the games and I really enjoyed watching how the team played as a family.  I think having a relationship like that with your teammates is very important, and I wanted to be a part of it".  Lexi plans to study Biology at Mayville State.

Kaitlyn Hulst
Kaitlyn comes to Mayville State from Roseau High School in Minnesota.  Roseau finished the season 29-0 and captured the Minnesota Class AA State Championship this past year.  Why Kaitlyn chose Mayville State:  "I chose Mayville State because of all the good things I heard about the Biology Programs.  I decided to play basketball at Mayville State because the coaches and players seem like great people.  I like the "family" concept within the basketball program.  I am very excited to meet new people and continue my schooling and basketball careers at Mayville State".

Tatum Moore
Tatum Moore comes to Mayville State from Whitewater High School in Montana.   Tatum was a four year All Conference player in high school.  She was also chosen Montana All State for three years, as well as All Defensive Team for three years.  She finished her career with 1,740 total points in high school.  Why Tatum chose Mayville State:  "One big reason I chose Mayville State was my family.  My grandparents and aunts and uncles that live in North Dakota have never had the chance to watch me play basketball.  I also went to basketball camp at Mayville State and had the greatest time, the greatest learning experiences and made so many lifelong friends at camp.  I also got to know and really enjoyed being around the coaches and the players in the program.  Everybody was so welcoming and made it an amazing experience.  Mayville State is the perfect size for me, and I feel I will fit in very well".  Tatum plans to study Elementary Education.

Kylee Heurung
Kylee comes to Mayville State from Brainerd High School in Minnesota.  Kylee was chosen Team MVP three seasons at Brainerd High School.  She was Offensive Player of the Year for four seasons and was also chosen All Area for three seasons. She was chosen Area MVP this past year.  She leaves Brainerd High School as the school's All Time Leading scorer for girl's basketball.  Why Kylee chose Mayville State:  "When I visited Mayville State I felt very welcomed by everyone.  From the coaches, the players and anyone we would meet while on our visit.  My family and I came to a game and everyone, the fans and the community were outstanding.  I am looking forward to the future and continuing my education and basketball career as a Comet!"  Kylee's Major is undecided right now, but she is leaning towards Education.

Erin Stevens
Erin comes to Mayville State from Lakeview High School in Minnesota.  Erin received the Laker Award from her high school (which goes to the player that shows excellence in athletics, academics and sportsmanship).  Erin was all chosen Honorable Mention All-Conference this past year.  Why Erin chose Mayville State:  "I chose Mayville State for a number of reasons.  I will be a third generation Comet, so following in the footsteps of my grandparents and parents played heavily into my decision.  I liked the atmosphere and small town mentality.  I have been able to attend Mayville State basketball games (one of those being their appearance in the National Tournament) it was obvious to me that the community and fans care not only about their athletes on the court, but also off the court.  From the moment I got to Mayville State I have felt right at home and have been greeted by a friendly smile everywhere I go."
