Box Score The Mayville State football team dropped its conference opener to Dakota State University Saturday evening 16-48.  

Dakota State's offense was too much for the Comets all day, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back. Jacob Giles opened it up with the first two touchdowns of the game, with scoring receptions of 21 and nine yards. The Comets were able to get into the endzone late in the first half with Creighton Pfau connecting with Adrian Carillo to make the score 10-21 at halftime. The Trojans were able to extend their lead to 10-42 throughout the 3rd quarter, leaving the Comets with no answers on defense. Each team was able to get in the endzone in the 4th quarter, with the Comets scoring as time expired making the final score 16-48. 

Creighton Pfau went 25 of 48 for 183 yards and two scores. Joshua Portillo and Adrian Carillo were both able to haul in a touchdown catch, Chris Pope led the way for the Comet receiving corps with seven catches. Obie Wilder was able to put together a strong game on the ground, rushing ten times for 91 yards. Desmond Earles was able to add 68 yards on 12 attempts. Preston Hamlette led the Comets defensively with 8 tackles, Jason McCarl and Donte Stevens were both able to add seven of their own.

The Comets will host Dickinson State next Saturday at Jerome Berg Field, kickoff is at 1:00 PM.
