Comets look to extend winning steak to seven Wednesday night against the Vikings

Mayville, N.D. - The Mayville State University Volleyball team looks to extend their winning streak to seven Wednesday evening against Valley City State. First serve from the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse is scheduled for 7:00 PM. 

Quick Hits on the Comets:
The Mayville State Comets head into the midweek conference matchup with a 9-2 overall record and 2-0 in conference play. The Comets average 11.9 kills per set, .168 hitting percentage, and 10.3 assists per set. Defensively, MSU has tallied 19.7 digs per set, 113.0 total blocks, and 2.4 blocks per set. Mayville State leads the conference in total assists, total kills, kills per set, total blocks, blocks per set, total digs, and digs per set. Victoria Johnson leads the Comet offense with 187 kills, a .311 hitting percentage, and 51.0 total blocks on the season. Second on the team in kills is Elora Passa with 97 kills on the season. She is also leading Mayville State in assists with 187. Ashley Pyburn is second in blocks with 49.0 and third in kills with 89. Second on the team in assists is Rachel Hill with 183. Mason Hart has 222 digs on the season with 97.4% serve reception percentage. Amy Seim and Jordyn Lucas have 154 and 122 digs respectively. The Comets were picked fourth in the NSAA Preseason Coaches Poll with 42 points, Viterbo was picked first with 64 points. 

Matching up with the Vikings:
Valley City State University enters this week with a 3-7 overall and 2-1 in NSAA play. The Vikings are averaging 11.3 kills per set, 10.2 assists per set, 1.5 aces per set, and 1.4 blocks per set. VCSU is leading the conference in total service aces with 56 on the season. Katie Juarez is leading the Viking offense with 105 kills with a .146 hitting percentage. Caitlyn Fischback is hitting .252 on the season with 72 kills on 206 attempts. Clarissa Hilary is leading the NSAA with 331 assists and 9.0 assists per set. Kylie Erickson is second in service aces with 13 aces on the season. Kallene Klever is leading the VCSU defense with 155 digs, averaging 4.2 digs per set. The Valley City State Vikings were selected 8th in the NSAA Preseason Coaches' Poll, Viterbo was picked first. The Vikings are coached by Brigitte Greywater, in her first season at the helm.
