MAYVILLE, ND – The Mayville State University Comets returned home after a tough loss on the road last week in Duluth, Minn., to a rousing crowd, which propelled them to success. After a 54-point first half, the Comets cruised to victory, claiming a 67-0 shutout win over the Trinity Bible College (TBC) on Farmer's Bowl Saturday in front of a large crowd at Jerome Berg Field.

"As a staff, we challenged the guys this week to focus on doing their job and execute," head coach Jeff Larson said. "They took the challenge and had a great day."

Saturday was Larson's first Farmer's Bowl football game in his tenure at Mayville State.

"Our first Farmer's Bowl together was a great success," he said. "I am very proud of our guys."

As was in the first home game for the Comets, it was the Creighton Pfau-to-Jacquante Pitts show, as the two connected on four of Mayville State's 10 touchdowns on the afternoon.

The afternoon started off differently than normal for the Comets, as Yuri Brady recovered the onside kick from his own kicker, Nick Howser. The Lions went to work right out of the gate, offensively, even after electing to kick off the game.

No offensive production on the first TBC offensive drive set up good field position for the Comets, who took over with 11:17 left in the first quarter at their own 36-yard line.

Two Pfau passes, one to Darrel Wilson and the other to Reese Hanson, set up second-and-three from the TBC 31. Two plays later, Mayville State got on the board with a 31-yard pass from Pfau to Pitts. Josh Portillo's extra point kick was good, giving the Comets the 7-0 lead early.

A short time later, after TBC again gave the ball to the Comets, the air attack continued. Pfau found Hanson wide open, but TBC defended well, and there was no gain on the play.  Knowing the Lions were defending well, the Comets tried the ground game, handing the ball to Cole Dukart, who dashed for a seven-yard gain, making it third-and-three at the TBC 31 yard line again. Then, on the next play, Pfau again found Pitts, wide open, for the score. Portillo's PAT made it 14-0 Mayville State.

Two more Mayville State touchdowns, a pass from Pfau to Portillo for a 29-yard score, and the other a quarterback keeper by Pfau, made the score 27-0 after one quarter of play.

The second quarter was a repeat of the first quarter, with the Comets air game continuing.

Passes by Pfau to Portillo and Pitts set up the Comets with a first-and-five on the TBC five-yard line. On the next play, Pfau found Pitts in the endzone, giving Mayville State the 33-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Trinity Bible then, again, attempted to move the ball down the field, only picking up about 20 yards on their offensive series.

It then became the Keon Suber game, when the Comets hit the field for their offensive series.

A Pfau carry for 20 yards set up first-and-10 from the Mayville State 47. On the next two plays, Keon Suber picked up runs of a total of eight yards, moving the Comets downfield.

The air attack then continued, as Pfau found Hanson for a 24-yard pass, setting up Mayville State with a first-and-10 on the 13 yard line.

Four plays late, on second-and-one, Suber scampered across the goal line, and Mayville State suddenly led 40-0 in the second quarter.

The final score, late in the second quarter, was a 17-yard pass from Pfau to Wilson, making it 54-0 at halftime.

Two scores in the second half sealed the win.

A four-yard pass from Pfau to Pitts made it 60-0, while a Sincere Powell one-yard run was the final score, with 6:18 left in the fourth quarter.

Pfau finished 21-of-25 passing, for 319 yards and six touchdowns, along with having five rushes for 57 yards and one rushing touchdown.

The leading rusher for Mayville State was Suber, who finished with 75 yards rushing on 13 attempts, with one touchdown.

Pitts was the leading receiver, with six receptions for 121 yards and four receiving touchdowns. Wilson added in five receptions for 88 yards and one receiving touchdown.

Mayville State led in total offensive yards, amassing 544 yards, compared to Trinity Bible College's 220 yards.

The Comets will travel to Massachusetts next weekend to take on Merrimack College.
