Mayville, N.D. - The Comet Baseball team opens the 2020 fall season with a road contest at University of Jamestown. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM against the Jimmies.

Mayville State's finished the shortened season with a 13-8 record. The Comets finished last season with a .258 batting average, 30 doubles, three triples, six home runs, and 80 runs batted in. The pitching staff allowed a 4.73 earned run average in 154.0 innings, allowing 57 walks, striking out 156, and a .273 batting average against. Michael Theisen led the Comet offense with a .373 batting average with nine doubles, nine stolen bases, one home run, and seven runs batted in. Gunner Garpestad hit .364 in the short season for the Comets with one home run, seven runs batted in, and four stolen bases. Parker Stohr pitched a 1.96 earned run average in 18.1 innings last year with 15 hits, four earned runs, 18 strikeouts, and a .217 batting average against. Connor DiNaro led MSU with three wins on the season with a 4.50 ERA in 24.0 innings, striking out 26 and only walking four. 

The Jimmies finished the 2020 season with 17-5 record and 2-0 in the GPAC. They finished the year with a .286 batting average, 29 doubles, six triples, 20 home runs, and 113 runs batted in. The pitching staff for UJ allowed a 4.39 earned run average in 170 innings pitched, 83 earned runs, 150 strikeouts, and 83 walks. Mitchell Dennis went 3-1 last year with 28.0 innings pitched, 18 strikeouts and 17 earned runs. Andy Reed went 3-0 with a 1.13 ERA, allowing three runs in 24.0 innings. Lincoln Trujillo led the team with six home runs, 17 runs batted in, and hit .222 on the season. Luke Shekeryk was the top hitter in the lineup with a .421 batting average and 10 runs batted in.
