Mayville, N.D. - The Mayville State University Volleyball team will host Briar Cliff University on Thursday night for a non-conference matchup. First serve is scheduled for 6 pm with jv starting at 4 pm. Due to COVID-19, Masks are required for all spectators and Game Management who enter Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. According to the CDC, we will only allow 500 people into the gymnasium in an effort to keep everyone safe and social distanced. Enjoy the game and please help keep everyone safe by wearing your mask and social distancing, and we strongly encourage social distancing of 6 feet when attending games.
The Mayville State Comets went 3-1 last weekend in Kansas defeating Bethany, Kansas Wesleyan, and Central Christian College. The Comets opened the 2020 conference season with a sweep of Presentation College. Over the weekend, MSU finished with 215 kills, .177 hitting percentage, 12.6 kills per set, 181 assists, 334 digs, and 34.0 blocks on the weeknd.
Victoria Johnson finished the weekend with 71 kills, five solo blocks, and 13 blocking assists.
Mason Hart over the weekend, tallied 87 digs, a .974 serve reception percentage, and three aces.
Elora Passa recorded 38 kills, 87 assists, 41 digs, seven aces, and five block assists during the 3-1 weekend. Sophomore
Amy Seim tallied 73 digs, nine assists, and four service aces. Middle
Ashley Pyburn is third on the team with 60 kills, she is first in blocks with 32.0. Setter
Rachel Hill is second on the team with 140 assists. She also has recorded seven kills, five service aces, and 52 digs. The Comets were picked fourth in the NSAA Preseason Coaches Poll with 42 points, Viterbo was picked first with 64 points.
Lindsey Johnson is entering her 13th season as head coach for the Comets.
The Chargers come into the non-conference matchup with a 4-2 record. They defeated NSAA conference member Waldorf in five sets. Grace Hanno is currently leading the BCU offense with 65 kills and 2.5 kills per set. In second place is Tyra Blue with 52 kills. Sami Wasmund is the Charger leader in blocks with 34.0, in second place is Toria Andre with 21.0. Hanno is also leading the Briar Cliff defense with 89 digs in the back row. Right behind her with 88 digs is Tannah Heath. Madilyn Wagaman and Maureen Imrie are the setters for the Chargers with 122 and 101 assists respectively. Briar Cliff University was selected 11th in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll. The Chargers are coached by Lindsey Weatherford, in her second season as head coach.
