St. Paul, MN – The Mayville State University Volleyball team dropped a non-conference game to the University of Northwestern-St. Paul by a final score of 0-3. The Comets drop to 13-4 regular-season record.
The University of Northwestern started the first set fast scoring the first four points of the match. After Mayville State closed the gap to one at 5-4, UNW went on a 6-2 run to jump out to a 12-6 advantage. The Comets would close the gap to three at 8-11, the Eagles went on a 6-0 run to open a nine-point lead and take the first set by a final score of 25-16.
UNW started the second set the same way they started the first set scoring the first scoring 6 out of the first seven points. Mayville State would answer right back with a 9-1 run to give the Comets a three-point advantage. During that run, Pyle tallied two kills and one from Johnson. After the score was tied at 14, points teams traded points before the Eagles finished the second set on a 3-0 run and take set two by a final of 22-25.
Mayville State started the third set fast with a 5-1 run. Immediately following the fifth point for the Comets, UNW scored the next three points to close the gap. The third set was tied at 10 before a big run from the Eagles gave them a six-point advantage at 17-11. MSU could not climb back into the match dropping the third set by a final score of 25-18.
Mayville State finished the game hitting .073 with 32 kills, on 151 total attacks and 21 hitting errors. The Comets also finished with one service ace, 76 digs, and 3.0 total blocks. Victoria Johnson finished the match with seven kills and one solo block. Leading the Comets tonight in the kills department was Elora Passa with eight kills on 32 attempts. She also finished with nine assists, 10 digs, and one blocking assist.
Mason Hart led the back row tonight with 17 digs in the back row with one set assist. Jordyn Lucas tallied 16 digs for the Comets tonight. Rachel Hill led the Comets in assists this evening with 12 on the night. Kaitlin Leier and Ashley Pyburn finished the game with four kills in the game.
The Comets will continue the road trip Friday and Saturday in Chicago as they will face four teams from the CCAC. Friday's games are scheduled for 3 & 5 PM and Saturday's games are scheduled for 9 & 11 AM.
