Comet Volleyball dropped a conference game to Bruins Friday

Bellevue, Neb. – The Mayville State University Volleyball team dropped a conference game to Bellevue University by a final score of 3-1 on Friday night. The Comets drop to 16-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
 
Mayville State was trailing 4-5 in the first set before the Bruins 7-1 run that extended the lead to 12-5. Later in the first set, the Bruins tallied another large run of 8-1 to extend the lead to 11 and win the first set by a final score of 25-10. The Comets turned it around in the second set and started the set on a 5-2 run. After the Bruins closed the gap to one, the Comets answered with three-points to take a four-point lead.
 
The Comets were up three-point in the second set before a 7-1 run to get up on Bellevue 15-7. The Comets were up 17-10 before Bellevue scored four straight points to cut the lead to three. The Bruins tied the game at 19 and took the lead at 21-19. MSU would answer with a 7-2 run to finish out the second set by a final of 26-24.
 
The fourth set was tied at four before an 8-0 run gave the Bruins an eight-point advantage. Mayville State could not get any closer than six in the second period and would lose the third set by a final score of 25-15. The Comets and Bruins played a competitive fourth set early as neither team was ahead by more than two-points. The fourth set was tied at 11 before the Bruins went on an 8-2 run to take a six-point lead late in the set and would win the set by a final score of 25-16.
 
The Comets finished the game with 33 kills on 153 attack attempts and finished the match with a .085 hitting percentage. Mayville State also finished with six blocks, 84 digs, 32 assists, and one block. MSU was led by Victoria Johnson with 10 kills, two blocks, and one dig. Mason Hart led the Comets in the back row with 23 digs. Elora Passa finished with eight kills, 17 assists, four blocks, and five digs.
 
Rachel Hill tallied 10 assists, one service ace, and seven digs. Lily Pyle tallied seven kills and three digs and Amy Seim tallied 21 digs in the back row. Jordyn Lucas tallied 11 digs in the back row and Natalie Hadrava and Kaitlin Leier tallied one kill.
