Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State University Football team opens the 2021 season on the road at #20 Roosevelt University. The kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM from Chicago, Illinois against the Lakers.

The Comet Football enters the 2021 football season after a 2-7 overall record and 1-6 in conference play last season.

The Comets defeated the Presentation College Saints twice last season both on the road with a final score of 42-14 and 20-14.

Last season the Comets averaged 24.7 points per game, 99.9 rushing yards, 239.3 passing yards, 35.4 percent on third-down conversions, and 57.1 percent on fourth-down conversions.

Defensively, MSU allowed 35.8 points per game, 197.1 rushing yards, 189.2 passing yards, 40.8 percent on third-down conversions, and 55.5 percent on fourth-down conversions.

Tim Salmon is the returning quarterback for the Comets throwing for 1032 yards, nine touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and a 48.95 completion percentage.

The top three receivers Portillo, Flowers, and Roundtree return for the Comets combining for over 1300 yards receiving, 88 receptions, and 11 touchdowns.

Top rusher Cole Dukart returns averaging 32.0 rushing yards per game and two rushing touchdowns.

The top four in tackles return for the MSU defense; Josiah Walker, Austin Delaroque, Daniel Simpson, and Danzele Navy. Those four players combined for 214 tackles for the Comets last season.

The Comets were selected fifth in the NSAA preseason Coaches' Poll with 17 points. Dickinson State was selected first with 36 points and six first-place votes.

The Roosevelt University Lakers enter the 2021 season ranked number 20th in the nation after posting a 6-1 overall record.

The Lakers averaged 25.2 points per game 165.7 rushing yards per game, 186 passing yards per game, 42.7 percent on third-down conversions, and 35.0 percent on fourth-down conversions.

Defensively, RU allowed 14.4 points per game, 105.7 rushing yards per game, 179.3 passing yards, allowing 22.9 percent conversion on third down and 30.0 percent conversion on fourth down.

Roosevelt University is a part of the Mid-States Football Association compiled of 16 teams and split into two divisions.
