Comet Volleyball plays four games in three days at Labor Day Classic

Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State University Volleyball team travels to Bellevue University for the annual Labor Day Classic. They will play four games over three days with the Comets opening the weekend on Thursday night against Baker University. The Comets play two games on Friday against Southwestern Assemblies of God University at 1:00 PM and Hope International at 5:00 PM. The Comets finish the weekend on Saturday morning as the matchup with the Mustangs from Morningside College at 9:00 am.
 

All matches will be played at the Lied Activity Center (2700 Arboretum Dr, Bellevue, NE)

Quick Hits on the Comets:

The Comets enter the weekend with a 2-3 overall record after dropping the first match of the season at Briar Cliff University 2-3.

Over the weekend, the Comets went 2-2 at the Hastings College Tournament defeating Kansas Wesleyan and Haskell Indian Nations.

Over the first five games of the season, the Comets have 208 kills, 11.6 kills per set, a .188 hitting percentage, 11.1 assists per set, and nine service aces.

Defensively, the Comets have allowed 27 aces, tallied 17.9 digs per set, 23.0 total blocks, an opponent hitting percentage of .196, and 1.3 blocks per set.

Elora Passa leads the Comets in two categories with 62 kills and 92 assists. Passa also has two service aces, a .201 hitting percentage, 51 digs, and 6.0 total blocks.

Lily Pyle is second in kills with 50 on the season with a .273 hitting percentage, and 3.0 blocks.

Rachel Hill is the second setter for the Comets with 79 assists on the season, 32 digs, and two service aces.

Natalie Hadrava is leading the Comets with 78 digs, 4.33 digs per set, a .971 serve reception percentage and four assists.

Jordyn Lucas is second in digs with 62 on the season with 3.44 digs per set, a .959 serve reception percentage, and two service aces.

Mayville State was selected fourth in the NSAA Preseason Coaches' Poll with 42 points. Viterbo University was selected first with 63 points.

Previous Matchups:

The Baker Wildcats enter the weekend matchup 0-4 on the regular season dropping three matches to teams receiving votes including NSAA opponent Bellevue University.

The Wildcats and Comets will meet for the first time in school history. Baker University is located in Baldwin City, Kansas, and is in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

Southwestern Assemblies of God University enters the weekend with a 5-1 overall record and 2-0 in conference play. The Lions are a part of the Sooner Athletic Conference and the school is located in Waxahachie, TX

Hope International Royal enters the weekend with a 3-2 overall record defeating Benedictine, California-Merced, and College of Idaho.

The Royals and Comets will meet for the first time in school history on Friday. Hope International is located in Fullerton, California, and plays in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

Morningside Mustangs enter the weekend tournament with a 6-3 overall record and a 0-1 conference record. The Mustangs are coming off a 3-1 weekend defeating Williams Baptist, Stephens, and MidAmerica Nazarene.

The Comets and Mustangs haven't played since 2017 and Morningside holds a 5-0 record from 2011-2017. The Mustangs are located in Sioux City, Iowa, and are in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
